Can someone explain Dali’s critical paranoia?

I am doing a report on the artist and was wondering, in simple terms, what his theory on “critical paranoia” meant.

Most creative people don’t believe in their creativity. They question if this is right, should that be changed, this is especially true of writers. Artists must make art, whether others like it is where the paranoia comes in.
