Etymology Paranoia

what’s a word for seeing connections and patterns where they don’t exist?
I know there is a word that exist for this sort of paranoia (and that’s not the word) because I believe that seen and used it before, but I cannot remember it for the life of me. It may have started with an h or maybe even the prefix hypo, but I’m not sure. Maybe it was all just a dream. Yes, sometimes I dream of words and their usage and etymology. I’m starting the think that such a word does not exist and I’m the one seeing the connections and patterns that truly aren’t there. Help if you can.
