How To Get Over Paranoia

Some steps I could take to get over my intense paranoia?
I have suffered from bad paranoia for the past 3-4 years and I really do not know why. I am so paranoid about death and murderers. Sometimes I have terrible dreams about someone trying to kill me and I have intense fear the next day.
Some claim that my generation (I am 20) have been mentally affected with the 911 tragedies. Could this be my problem? How can I get over these issues, besides seeing a therapist?
To get over these issues you must understand the difference between your BRAIN and your MIND. Your brain is the organ in your body that takes care of all of the physical and mental necessities, while your mind is an intangible thing that is in charge of your thoughts and philosophies. Your brain cannot control your mind, but your mind CAN control your brain. For example, patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder have learned to control their OCD tendencies through a series of therapies that allow them to make a mindful decision to override the urges that their brain is making. Their BRAIN is telling them that they need to wash their hands repeatedly, etc., but whenever they experience this urge, they use their MIND to say, “This is just an impulse of my brain, and I do not have to listen to it right now.”
So, in your case, your BRAIN is telling you that there is a murderer in your closet or that you will die tomorrow, but these are impulses that your brain is making out of habit or out of a psychological disorder. Whenever you begin to feel paranoid, you can use your MIND to logically and emotionally say, “I feel this way because my brain is impulsively telling me to feel this way, but I know my MIND does not feel this way.” This is the first step to separating your compulsive tendency to be paranoid and your locigal knowledge that nothing is going to happen.
In the meantime, stop watching the news and stop finding videos or articles that are violence related. Watch fun TV shows or play fun online-puzzle games. Once you get out of the habit of being hooked into every violent story you hear, it will not affect you as much.
The link in the sources is for a book of a good friend of mine who came up with the Mind/Brain theory. It has been vastly successful in OCD patients, and I recommend that you purchase it and read it to see if it will help you.
