Is Paranoia Dangerous
I read a book when I was younger and I’m trying to remember what it is?
Two friends somewhere in New England (New York, I think) go swimming in a notoriously dangerous and polluted river, and one of them goes missing whilst in the water, presumably drowning. The other one, for the rest of the book, feels such shame and paranoia that no matter how much he washes himself, he can always detect the stench of the river on himself.
