How should this be dealt with?
You are in a friendship/relationship with someone who is paranoid. Paranoid in the way that they think everything you say is reflective of them. And are always playing mind games with you? Meaning that they show in private that they are your friend, yet when asked, they pretend they don’t know you or care about you? Are mind games just a form of paranoia?
This is an example of a friendship in which one friend thinks they have a friendship and is loyal and caring toward the other person and the other person is not capable of the same depth of feeling and friendship. If you are a very patient and tough skinned person then what a blessing for the other party to have a true friend like you, but if you don’t want to have your feelings hurt and your hopes of a deep and mutually satisfying friendship dashed, I’d say ease up the friendship and keep it at a short, but safe distance.
