Am I Pregnant?
“Am I pregnant?” – This question may either be taken positively or negatively among women. If you have been trying to conceive, pregnancy signs can mean good news. But if unplanned, experiencing pregnancy symptoms can be a big dilemma. The only way to get over this “hoping” stage is by getting it confirmed. Once you get a positive pregnancy test, that’s the time that you start thinking about what to do next.
The “feeling pregnant” blues can manifest in many ways. First of all, if you and your partner have long been awaiting for a baby, too much excitement can cause one to “feel” pregnant even without enough basis. On the other hand, an unsafe sexual contact can cause paranoia to a woman who does not have plans of becoming pregnant soon.
To confirm pregnancy, get a pregnancy test. There are many ways to do so. If you want a quick result, you can opt for home pregnancy tests (HPT). While home pregnancy kits are not considered as accurate as the blood tests administered by a doctor, HPTs has become very common among women who want an instant confirmation. These kits may be purchased from pharmacies and grocery stores. Before conducting your test, be sure to read the instructions very carefully. If the result is negative, you may want to conduct a second test after a few days. If you got a positive pregnancy test, see your doctor right away and seek for a second and more accurate opinion.
Another way to find out if you’re pregnant is through a blood test. Pregnancy tests conducted in the hospitals use blood specimen instead of urine – which is why they are more accurate than the pregnancy kits that you use at home. If the result is still positive, then stop asking yourself the question “Am I pregnant?” This simply means that you are bound to become a mom.
A positive pregnancy test only entails that you should start taking care not only of your body but also of your baby. There are a few things that you need to keep in mind. If you are a smoker, quit smoking immediately. Nicotine and tobacco is said to cause low birth weight, premature birth and many other birth-related problems. Alcohol and street drugs should also be stopped. These can cause physical deformity and even death to babies. To ensure a healthy lifestyle, pregnant women are encouraged to exercise regularly. A low-impact exercise like swimming or walking will also be a big help. Of course, a healthy diet plan will do a huge role in determining your baby’s health. Now that you’re pregnant, quit on the junk foods and eat the right amount of fruits, vegetables and proteins instead. Taking in your pre-natal vitamin will also keep you and your baby healthy throughout the pregnancy. You can discuss this with your doctor and ask for recommendation as to which vitamins would be best for you to take.
Whether planned or unplanned, pregnancy should always be taken as a positive and beautiful event. Once a positive pregnancy test is confirmed, prepare your emotions, your body, your partner, your environment and most importantly, your future to ensure not only a healthy baby but a happy motherhood as well.
