Social Anxiety And Paranoia

the best medication for social anxiety and paranoia?
I’m in the same boat as you,
I have had major social phobia and paranoia now for 3 years! It’s so debilitating because now one understand only the people who have had it. So what people write on here is a wait of time unless they have experienced it.
Now this is what I have learned over the past 3 years of research on trying to get better like I was before.
1. Everyone is different, social phobia can be caused by a number of different things, and can be treated differently, via medication or therapy like CBT or both.
Now this is my experience and I’m still suffering, I have tried the following.
ALL these anti anxiety herbal remedies have made it worse for me, and have felt like taking a placebo! So don’t waist your money on them please.
cipralex- (ssri anti depressant) made me extremely anxious and caused more phobias then what I started with. tried it for 8 weeks and contacted the company and suggested that I stop taking it as by now I should have felt the benefits.
Diazepam- benzodiazepine anti anxiety drug- this made me feel toooooo relaxed and actually felt drunk and could not control my movement, also made me very sleepy, very fast acting drug, kicked in straight away but then lasts for about 1 hour, then you end up feeling more anxious. not even effective for soical phobia becuase you worry that people can notice that you look drunk!
Therapy -hypnotherapy- I feel this is a waist of time and money, as It didn’t help me one bit, I believe and scientifically proven that most cases of social phobia and paranoia is a physical problem in the brain, either neurotransmitters or the amygdala (fear centre) or both and thus causes brain overstimulation. The main problem and root cause is the amygdala, now I did find a new drug on the market but was a bit skeptical about it, it’s called oxytosin, it’s called the trust hormone, and you spray and breathe it in, and is believed to help people with social phobia because it destimulates the amygdala making social fears seem normal. Read about it, because I might be going down this rout myself, but it CAN NOT BE USED WILE PREGNANT as this drug is used in hospitals to help contractions and push the baby out?! And that what put me off using it?
propananol- beta blockers- these have been the best so far because they block out adrenaline that causes the body to fight and flight, and most people with anxiety and social phobia have high levels of norepinpherine (neurotransmitter) and epinephrine (adrenaline) I’m on them now, and stated at 10mg 3x daily, you can take 40mg 3xs daily and the maximum for other disorders you can take 320mg! but beware as beta blockers are mainly used for high blood pressure and thus works by blocking adrenaline, so any way I have been on these now for 1 week, the first time I stated taking them I FELT LIKE ME AGAIN! I WAS LIKE FINALLY FOUND THE CURE, but I spoke to soon, 10mg stated to not do the trick, and with me I get butterflies (rush of adrenaline pumping through my veins) so 10mg started to not be enough and you can feel this if your with people and you start getting that fight and flight feeling, now I’m on 20mg, and still not enough, so I feel because my body has sooooo much adrenaline 20mg is still not enough, so now my plan is to take 40mg 4xs daily it’s a bit more than what it says but I feel that if someone has server anxiety they need to, otherwise throughout the day, waves of fight and flight will flood your body, and it’s a horrible feeling. so this is my next step, I have just brought a blood pressure machine for 20pounds to keep tabs on my levels, they are high and have been for a while, but sometimes they drop.
What people say about this beta blocker is that it’s more for performance anxiety than social but when I first started taking it it worked like a dream, so I believe that at the right dose it can work wonders and if not, maybe I will try a beta-alpha blocker, and this blocks both norepinpherine and epinephrine. But I would try to start with propananol because there has been good feedback.
so now I’m taking propananol and will raise it to 40 4xs a day, I’m taking 5-htp 100mg (serotonin) magnesium 600mg, omega 3 and EPA, my social phobia still has not gone, it did on the first day with propananol, but now it’s back again and I know God willing one day I’ll get better, and I’ll continue to find the cure, because I know there is one!
